Too many ‘weak’ numbers. 2050? People don’t give a flying f*** about stuff that feels that far into the future. Hell, most people who are 50 or older will literally be dead by then. “If the world warms by 4C…”. I hate to break it to you, but if the world is allowed to warm by 4C we’ve doomed humanity.
There’s no ifs or buts about it. Feedback loops and tipping points will make sure anything above 3C (or maybe even 2C according to some research) will just make the world heat until methane gas bombs ignite the f***ing sky, destroying more or less everything on the surface. But hey, plankton will survive, so that’s something huh?
I’m a person that’s well-read on the subject of ‘what ifs’ in regards to climate change, and if you want people to react, focus on near-term catastrophes. You were close though! Use that part about the US turning into a desert, but with more context. 2C might happen as soon as 20 years from now. Now, for the love of God, don’t say “By 2040…”. People absolutely reject warnings that sound that far into the future.
Even though it’s literally the same thing, say something like “In 20 years the US will turn into a dustbowl and our economy will tank to lower than the economy of Mexico, if we don’t do something about this problem”.
That’s how you get a reaction.
